Obituary for
Leonard "Johnny" Tatum

SGM Leonard “Johnny” Tatum, 74, of
Paragould
went to be with the Lord March 3,
2010
at Arkansas
Methodist
Medical Center.
He served 23 years in the Army and retired in 1976 as a
Sergeant Major. He played the Euphonium for the West Point Army Band, was
drum major for five years, played for five presidential inaugurations,
president Hussein of Jordan and the Alzheimer’s Association. He was a past
president of the Civitan Club, worked at Tim’s Menswear, Jenkins Lamp
Company and a security guard at Monroe of Paragould from 1976 to 1989.
Tatum was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest “Slim”
and Effie (Johnson) Tatum; his first wife, Joann (Marler) Tatum; one son,
Forrest Tatum and a sister Thelma Rockwell.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Clara Tatum; one
son and daughter-in-law, Lloyd and Lisa Tatum of Huntington Beach, CA.; one
daughter and son-in-law, Lee Ann (Tatum) and Jeff Whipkey of Roscoe, IL.;
two step-daughters and one step son-in-law, Ann (Edgar) Davenport of
Sherwood, AR. and Susan (Edgar) and Richard Payne of Paragould; five
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 6-9 PM, Friday,
March 5, 2010 at Phillips Funeral Home. Funeral services will be
10 AM, Saturday, March 6, 2010 in the Center Hill Chapel at Phillips Funeral
Home with Bro. Kevin Edgar officiating. Burial will follow at
Greene
County Memorial
Gardens.
